"MOONRISE OVER THE ERSKINE FIRE" archival photo print by Michael Cuffe - OPEN EDITION - 8.5" x 11"
"MOONRISE OVER THE ERSKINE FIRE occurred on June 23rd, 2016 and is one of the most destructive wildfires in California history. Just hours after the fire broke out, I photographed the moon as it rose over Cook Peak with Lake Isabella in the foreground. From the moment the shutter clicked, I knew this would be regarded as one of the most important and beautiful photos I've ever taken. The photo instantly went viral around the world, and within days was featured on and in every major news network including CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, The Weather Channel, as well respected journalistic platforms The New York Times, The Washington Post, The UK Guardian and The London SUN, as well as many others. The photo inspires a true beauty in the life cycle of creation and destruction. It is also a tribute to the 257 homes that were lost in just a few hours, and which claimed the lives of two people." - MWC
